For our FUTURE
Me ara ake mō ā mua:
The future is in our hands.
In Share An Idea our communities put forward their vision for a more people-centred city. Now, we need to build on the momentum we have been creating for Ōtautahi Christchurch to be a better place to live in for future generations, clean water, thriving economy and great choices for getting around.
A city with an urban forest and hills recloaked with trees, clean water, thriving economy and great choices for getting around.
But to do this we need to move beyond short term political thinking and plan for a more sustainable and resilient future for the kids of tomorrow.
-
Lowering our impact on the planet with well-planned density, walkable neighbourhoods, more trees and less waste.
Ensuring we have Adaptation Plans created for and by communities and making sure we have the ability to implement them.
Providing effective climate change communications and information.
-
Providing more space for nature in the city as we grow and increase tree canopy in our streets, parks and hills.
Improving the health of our rivers and streams.
-
Working closely with businesses as we transition to a low-carbon economy.
Reinstating the central city shuttle or similar service.
Lowering rates increases over time by investing wisely in our infrastructure instead of sweating assets and increasing maintenance costs and increasing housing density close to the central city in areas like SoMo.

“Sara brings a clear vision for Ōtautahi Christchurch and a values-driven approach that prioritises listening to the concerns of our communities. She is aware of the long-term risks we face and is aspirational about the kind of city we can create. Her pragmatic, proactive and future-focused leadership is what our city needs to help it thrive now and into the future.”

“I am excited and delighted that Sara Templeton has decided to put herself forward to be our next Mayor. Sara is experienced in public office and her big picture thinking describes an exciting vision for the city. Importantly, she combines this thinking with a practical determination to get things done. Sara is a courageous leader, and she is brave in engaging in the conversations that need to be had if we are to mitigate the impact of a climate which is rapidly changing.
Sara is passionate and supportive of all the things I care about. As a Banks Peninsula resident, it has been reassuring to me that Sara has understood the importance of regenerating native forest on Banks Peninsula as part of fostering greater biodiversity in Christchurch. Sara has sound environmental credentials and under her leadership we are likely to see a wonderful and necessary greening of our city as well as a city that feels confident, creative and ready for the global and local economic, environmental and social challenges ahead.”
