For our PEOPLE

Kāhore taku toa i te toa takitahi, he toa takitini:

we cannot succeed without the support of those around us.

People are the heart of our city and we can ensure that our communities are strong, connected and inclusive, with places to meet, the support they need and the ability to influence the decisions that impact them. There are huge pressures on individuals and whānau at the moment though and we need to find ways to work together to address them by having meaningful conversations about our priorities as a city and a clear path forward.

We have faced many challenges as a city and every time we have seen communities rise up and support each other. We can do it again.

    • Continuing to support our amazing local community and volunteer groups with grant funding.

    • Keeping our libraries and pools open.

    • Strengthening the relationship between Council and Community Boards.

    • Hosting workshops with a diverse range of residents on key issues for the city to inform planning and Council decisions.

    • Leading the development of a Long Term Plan that gives residents real choices with high, medium and low options for levels of service and capital projects, including their financial and rates implications.

    • Empowering residents to improve their neighbourhoods more easily - like planting in berms and roadside garden beds.

    • Building on our relationship with mana whenua.

    • Being open and accessible to residents, I will have regular drop-in sessions in our libraries across the city.

    • I will work collaboratively with all councillors to get the best outcomes for the city.

    • Reinstating committees for more governance oversight of council programmes of work and regular engagement with community groups.

COMMUNITY ENDORSEMENTS.

COMMUNITY ENDORSEMENTS.

“I've been privileged to work with Sara Templeton on issues facing Ōtautahi's rainbow communities over the last few years. I've seen her dedication to our communities first hand - she is someone who truly cares about the safety and needs of our community members, and as a councillor has taken action. As Mayor, I know Sara will continue to fight for the wellbeing of all rainbow people in Ōtautahi Christchurch - that's why I'm voting for her this election.”

“As a past chair of the Christchurch Coastal Pathway Group I first had the pleasure of working with Sara when she was a member of the Linwood-Heathcote-Sumner-Ferrymead Community Board. Sara recognised the value of the Coastal Pathway from its inception and was a huge supporter right the way through to its construction completion last year. This demonstrated the ability to understand, share and realise a strategic vision. Sara’s support for the Coastal Pathway at Council continued to show her political astuteness and ability to work with councillors, council staff and the community.

Sara brings to the table, a modern vision for a functional, future-proofed city that will be an even better place to live. We have benefited from many great post-earthquake investments but there is so much more to be done. I believe that Sara is the person who can help create that vision, with the Christchurch-Ōtautahi community, and then deliver a better future for us all.

I encourage you to support Sara in her bid to be a strategic thinking, community minded mayor for us all, now and into the future.”
