On THE CAMPAIGN TRAIL: May 2025

The 2025 local elections are fast approaching and time has flown since I first announced I was standing for Mayor back in October.

It’s been busy! I’ve been a strong advocate for our city’s infrastructure, our communities and our environment around the Council table - focused on getting our creaking water pipe renewals increased, more chlorine-free water stations around the city and kick-starting mahi on a decision making transparency tool, where residents can search for information about how decisions are made at Council. I’ve also been working with residents in the Heathcote Ward to resolve issues around trees, broken water pipes, noise complaints, a blocked footpath and much more!

Out in the community I’ve been to 23 community events across the city. I loved the Chomondely Open Day, Polyfest, the Rainbow Ride and Chinese New Year events and seeing the wide diversity of people in our city. These are all organised by a huge number of people who care deeply about our city and our people and are a massive part about what makes living in Ōtautahi so good!

I’ve had 19 separate coffees with residents and business owners having conversations about what matters for the future of our city and where they see the key issues. I’ve been invited to speak at 17 different events, from the Avonhead, Riccarton and Hornby Rotary groups to the Nurses Organisation Hui on the Health Crisis and at the Mother of all Clean-Ups.

I’ve also strived to be open and transparent about my campaign and how much I’m aiming to fundraise which you can read more about in the link below.

You’re Invited: Movie Night Fundraiser!

Join us for a fun night out at our Movie Fundraiser, a great way to support the campaign and catch up with like-minded locals. Bring a friend, bring your whānau – and support local leadership that stands up for climate action, transport choice, and vibrant communities.

On the 4th June, we have a private screening of the award-winning “Maurice & I” at Lumiere Cinemas, in the Arts Centre. This fantastic documentary about iconic architects, Sir Miles Warren and Maurice Mahoney, as they fight to save their finest building (the Christchurch Town Hall) is a must-see for every Cantabrian. It’s a special showcase of leadership, resilience and artisanship, in a post-quake world.

We’ll have a special guest involved in the film join us for a Q&A session as well - and you're welcome to stay for a drink afterwards.

Proceeds go directly to supporting campaign materials and outreach.
